3rd Directors' Leadership Programme (Module II)
The Second Module of the 3rd Directors' Leadership Programme was organized by Indian Institute of Management
Calcutta (IIMC) in partnership with NFCG on January 11-12, 2008 at Kolkata. The module II was for Financial
Directors. The programme provided opportunity to gain fresh insight of the Board through informal yet rigorous
discussions with the participants and thus provide a platform to improve leadership skills and understanding of
general management practices.
Declamation Contest on issues of Corporate Governance
The Declamation Contest on issues of Corporate Governance was organized by Loyola Institute of Business
Administration (LIBA) in partnership with NFCG on January 18, 2008 at Chennai. The Contest was organized with a
view to promote awareness of Corporate ethical practices and governance among the students of LIBA. The contest
was in form of submission of paper of relevant topics related to Corporate Governance and followed by an event
where participants would deliberate on the papers.
National Conference on Corporate Governance
he National Conference on Corporate Governance was organized by Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) in partnership with NFCG on January 25, 2008 at Chennai. The objective of the conference was to promote the best Corporate Governance practices among the students, academicians and Corporates.
Ist International Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility
The Ist International Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility was organized by ASSOCHAM in partnership with Ministry of Corporate Affairs under the aegis of NFCG on January 29-30, 2008 at New Delhi. The summit brought together Indian & International business, government and community to share key learning's, best practice, policy and case studies in the area of CSR and corporate citizenship issues. The summit, thus, promoted awareness on CSR developments in India and Internationally.
3rd Directors Leadership Programmes – Module III (for Bank and Financial Institution Directors)
The third Module of the 3rd Directors' Leadership Programme was organized by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) in partnership with NFCG on February 8-9, 2008 at Kolkata. This leadership programme was organised for the Directors of Bank and financial Institutions, with an aim to provide them an opportunity to understand corporate governance issues relevant to them and also enhance their skills/ knowledge, which is required by them to carry out their responsibilities.
Conference on "Risk Management and Corporate Social Responsibilities" for better Corporate Governance
The Conference on "Risk Management and Corporate Social Responsibilities" for better Corporate Governance was organized by Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune in partnership with NFCG on February 23, 2008 at Pune. The objective of the programme was to enhance skills of participants on techniques of identifying areas where possible risk could occur and how to identify analyze and how to work towards minimum risk environment for better result and governance. The other objective was to know the extent of integration of CSR concerns with corporate functioning responsiveness to the needs of different stakeholders and development of innovative partnership models to fulfill social responsibilities.
Round Table on Governance of International Joint Ventures
The Round Table on Governance of International Joint Ventures was organized by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) in partnership with NFCG on March 8, 2008 at Kolkata. The round table provided a platform for the participants to understand the various issues related to international joint ventures and how to address these issues
Seminar on Corporate Governance Reform for State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs)
The Seminar on Corporate Governance Reform for SLPEs of Andhra Pradesh, was organized by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) in partnership with NFCG on March 15, 2008 at Hyderabad. The objective of this seminar was to enhance conceptual clarity of the participants of SLPE of Andhra Pradesh on the subject of Corporate Governance and also share the conclusions of the study conducted by ASCI on the SLPEs in Orissa.
Seminar on Corporate Governance Reform for Directors of SMEs
The Seminar on Corporate Governance Reform for Directors of SMEs was organized by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) in partnership with NFCG on March 25, 2008 at Mumbai. The programme provided better understanding on the Corporate Governance issues relevant to SMEs such as the role and efficacy of the directors, the problems faced by the Boards of SMEs, etc.
2nd National Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2008 "The New Business Model:
Engaging Society, Enhancing Competitiveness"
To further dialogue, promote best practices and share action plans for new inclusive CSR strategies the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the 2nd National Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2008 on 5-6 May in New Delhi under the theme The New Business Model: Engaging Society, Enhancing Competitiveness. The Summit was part of CII's ongoing work in CSR and development that enabled business leaders to analyze different strategies for mainstreaming CSR and worked towards sustainably competitive business.

Enhancing Competitiveness was organised by CII in partnership with NFCG on 5-6 May in New Delhi. The Summit
enabled business leaders to analyze different strategies for mainstreaming CSR and worked towards sustainable
competitive business.
Network on Corporate Governance of State Owned Enterprises in Asia
The Network on Corporate Governance of State Owned
Enterprises in Asia was organized by OECD in partnership with NFCG on 25-26, June 2008 at New Delhi. The Network
focused on current reforms in India in the area of Corporate Governance in SOEs and also deliberated on two
chapters of the OECD Guidelines on State Owned Enterprises i.e. the Chapter V on Transparency and Disclosure and
Chapter III on Equitable Treatment of Shareholders.
National Seminar on Corporate Risk Management System
The National Seminar on Corporate Risk Management System was organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of
India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG on 28, June 2008 at Ahmedabad. With the objective to create awareness about
corporate risk matrix in today’s environment, the seminar was focused on identification, measurement and
mitigation of risks in a systematic manner so that corporate sustainability is ensured.
Conference on Transparency and Disclosure in Corporate Governance
The Conference on Transparency and Disclosure in Corporate Governance was organized by Symbiosis Institute of
Management Studies (SIMS) in partnership with NFCG on 28 June 2008 at Pune. The conference enhanced the knowledge
of the participants on the issues of how to improve transparency and disclosure not only for better compliance of
Corporate Governance regulations, but also to improve the image and ratings of the organizations and how
inadequate disclosures and lack of transparency could affect the image and ratings of their organization.
National Seminar on Corporate Compliance Management
National Seminar on Corporate Compliance Management was organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG on July 19, 2008 at Chandigarh. The Seminar focused on the compliance with sprit and details of laws, which cast upon the Company Secretaries and other corporate professionals an onerous responsibility to guide the corporates in adapting the compliance regimes, so as to ensure protection to investors, shareholders and other stakeholders.

Directors Orientation Programme on Corporate Governance was organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of
India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG on August 2, 2008 at Kolkata. This orientation programme was the first of
the four series of programmes being organised by ICSI-NFCG at various place across the country during this year
with an aim to provide opportunity to Board members to deliberate upon intricate issues in the good Corporate
Governance practice. The programme focused on the issues of Board Performance & Effectiveness; Regulatory
framework of Corporate Governance; Directors duties, responsibilities, etc; and Financial Information and Audit
Committee.

This seminar was the first of the four series of seminars being organised by ICAI-NFCG at various place across the country during this year with an aim to create awareness in good governance practices. The seminar focused mainly on addressing to the Corporate Governance related issues confronted by both the Private and Public Sector entities, whether listed or unlisted, i.e. the Proactive role of Board to improve Corporate Governance effectiveness; Corporate Governance practices in Public Sector Enterprises; Corporate Governance practices in family Owned Business & SME Sector,; and Impact of IT in facilitating Corporate Governance & Risk Management.

The seminar focused mainly on addressing to the Corporate Governance related issues confronted by both the Private and Public Sector entities, whether listed or unlisted, i.e. An indispensable entity for ensuring better governance leading to Corporation’s continual success; Corporate Governance practices in banking and Insurance Sectors; Code of Governance for Public Sector Enterprises & NGO; and Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability Reporting.
Corporate Governance Orientation Programme for Company Directors
The 8th Corporate Governance Orientation Programme for Company Directors was organized by Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in partnership with NFCG on September 21-24, 2008 at Bangalore. The Orientation Programme aimed to help Company Directors to take stock of the developments in Corporate Governance area, especially in the context of their applicability to their companies.
Conference on Globalization, Corporate Leadership and Inclusive Growth - An Indian Agenda for Global Knowledge & Local implementation
CII in partnership with IICA-EVIAN-IMD under the aegis of NFCG organized the conference on Globalization, Corporate Leadership and Inclusive Growth – An Indian Agenda for Global Knowledge & Local implementation on October 20-21, 2008 at New Delhi. The conference highlighted some of the Private Sectors Initiatives in India Inc's endeavor towards Inclusive Growth.
Asian Business Dialogue on Corporate Governance 2008 - "Corporate Governance in India and Asia: What Comes Next?
Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) in partnership with NFCG organized the Asian Business Dialogue on
Corporate Governance 2008 - "Corporate Governance in India and Asia: What Comes Next?" on November 5, 2008 at
Mumbai. The conference facilitated dialogue on timely and significant corporate governance issues in Asia. It not
only to provided delegates with a deeper understanding of corporate governance developments in particular markets
or sectors in Asia, but to give them some practical ideas that they can take away and use in their own
organizations.
3rd Sustainability Summit: "Competitiveness Redefined"
CII in partnership with NFCG organized the 3rd Sustainability Summit: Asia 2008- "Competitiveness Redefined” on December 11-12 2008 at New Delhi. The Summit brought together business, government and civil society (thinkers and practitioners) together to debate and deliberate on sustainability challenges and opportunities facing various stakeholders and conversion of these deliberations into action.
National Moot Court Competition on Corporate Governance
National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU) in partnership with NFCG organized the National Moot Court Competition on Corporate Governance on December 12-14, 2008 at Bangalore. The competition had participation of students from leading law colleges of the country. ICSI (Ahmd) and ICAI (Bangalore) The competition provided platform for the students to present their arguments for and against, in a court room set-up, on compliance of Corporate Governance norms by the company in an illustrated case.
Workshop on Directors Liabilities for Legal Non-Compliance
CII in partnership with NFCG organized two Workshops on Directors Liabilities for Legal Non-Compliance on December 12 2008 and December 18, 2009 at Bhubaneswar and Pune respectively. The Workshops focused on case studies on legal non-compliance, consequent liabilities to companies and the systems that need to be in place to protect interest of the Directors and Senior Management
National Moot Court Competitions on Corporate Governance
National Law Schpool of India University in partnership with NFCG organized National Moot Court Competitions on Corporate Governance on December 12-14, 2008 at Bangalore. The Moot Court Competition had participation of students from leading law colleges of the country, ICSI (Ahd) and ICAI (Bangalore). This competition provided a platform for the students to present their views whether a example company has complied with the specific Corporate Governance norms or violated the same.]
Conference on Improving Audit Committee functions for Better Corporate Governance
Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS) in partnership with NFCG organized the conference on Improving Audit Committee functions for Better Corporate Governance on December 19, 2008 at Pune. The Conference focused on the issue of how to improve quality of directors in the Audit Committee in evaluation and recommending techniques before recommendations to the board.
National Seminar - Corporate Governance beyond Legal Framework
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in partnership with NFCG organized half day National Seminar -Corporate Governance beyond Legal Framework on December 24, 2008 at Kanpur. The theme of Seminar was – Corporate Governance in India A renewed challenge. The seminar provide a platform for deliberation on issues like Roles of Regulators and Board for further improving Corporate Governance practices in India; Harmonizing the requirements of Clause 49 and Companies Act; and Global melt down and financial turmoil role of professionals to restore confidence and strengthen control mechanism.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in partnership with NFCG organized the National Seminar on Corporate Governance – Corporate Governance – Myth to Reality - A Way Forward on December 26, 2008 at Chennai. The seminar was third of the four series seminar bring organized by ICAI- NFCG at various place across the country during the year with an aim to create awareness in good governance practice. In the view of recent financial crisis and widespread feeling that the corporate governance model adopted by most countries has failed to deliver the desired results, this Conference aimed at reviewing the present Corporate Governnace models and generate ideas on how to make the model more robust.. The Conference focused on topics like Corporate governance in the financial sector; Role and effectiveness of independent directors in the present corporate governance model; Role of the auditor and the audit committee in corporate governance; and Corporate social responsibility.
